CORONATION

by Judita Vaičiūnaitė
translated by Rimas Uzgiris

Cover my shivering shoulders
with November's leaves,
a mantle of mink.
In that capital, for me—
only dead-end streets.
            Touch
the crown beneath the kerchief
of my humbled head.
Don't divine a basket
in my hands, but a scepter.
            Don't cut through
the sidewalk boards—it's a bridge.
I'm here—under ashberry pearls.

But a curse—like an honorary title—
falls from the drunken king of clubs.

Karūnavimas

Gobk lapkričio lapais
lyg lūšenų mantija
pašiurpusius mano pečius.
Tam didmiesty man – tik
akligatvio sienos.
            Apčiuopk
karūną po skepeta
ant mano galvos nulenktos.
Ne krepšį, o skeptrą
regėk mano rankoj.
            Lentos
Neperkirsk – tai tiltas.
Aš čia – po šermukšnių koralais.

Bet keiksmas – lyg titulas
Iš girto gilių karaliaus.
