Final judge this year is JUDITH CLAIRE MITCHELL, author of the novels The Last Day of the War (Penguin Random House, 2005) and A Reunion of Ghosts (HarperCollins, 2015). Judy teaches undergraduate and graduate fiction workshops at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she is the Dorothy Draheim Professor of English. A graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, Judy has published stories and poetry in anthologies and literary magazines such as Best of the Fiction Workshops, Shaping the Story, The Iowa Review, Prairie Schooner, StoryQuarterly, and others. She has also received grants and fellowships from the James A. Michener-Copernicus Society, the Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing, the Wisconsin Arts Board, and Bread Loaf, among others. She lives in Madison, Wisconsin, with her husband, the artist Don Friedlich.
